Fans shocked as footy heartthrob Bailey Smith makes a very surprising admission about his personal life

  • Former Bulldogs star sat out the entire 2024 season
  • Has now signed for Geelong Cats for next year
  • Had some revealing answers in interview for new fans

AFL star Bailey Smith has opened up about his life off the footy field in a Q&A session – with some of his answers sure to surprise his legion of fans.

The former Western Bulldogs star will join the Geelong Cats for the 2025 season which means the footy pin-up boy has a whole new armada of fans to endear himself to.

So the 23-year-old sat down with his fashion sponsor Cotton On for a rapid-fire Q&A session so those new fans could get to know him – and some of his answers were unexpected, to say the least.

The first question was what his favourite Australian music festival was, and the outgoing AFL star revealed that he didn’t have a long list to compare.

‘I’ve only ever been to one festival so I’ll just say that’s the best,’ he said.

‘It was BTV when I was 18.’

The Beyond the Valley (BTV) festival is a multi-day music and arts festival held annually in Victoria.

The 2024 event featured huge names in the modern music industry like FISHER, Ice Spice and Chase & Status.

The 2019 BTV that Bailey attended featured Aussie DJ RÜFÜS DU SOL and hip-hop star Tyler, The Creator.

Bailey was also asked who he preferred, international superstar Taylor Swift or Grammy Award-winning English singer and songwriter Charli XCX.

To the horror of modern music fans, Bailey revealed he had no idea who Charli XCX even is.

‘Who’s Charli XCX?’ he asked.

‘I swear on my life I don’t know who that is.’

When prompted that Charli XCX is responsible for the hit song Brat Summer, Smith quickly made his choice, saying: ‘Taylor Swift’.

The interviewer also asked whether Smith preferred a beach day or a pool day.

‘Beach for me personally,’ Smith said.

Cats or dogs?

‘What are we meaning here? I can’t pick,’ he said.

‘It’s like having two children, you can’t pick a favourite. I love my dog.’

Thongs or sneakers?

‘Sneakers,’ he replied.

Smith previously said that Geelong’s work-life balance combined with the people at the club were among the big things that convinced him to become a Cat.

Despite being an outgoing young celebrity, fans will be shocked to learn that Smith knows little about modern music

Smith was traded from the Western Bulldogs to Geelong as part of a four-club deal in the dying minutes of the AFL’s trade period.

The 23-year-old missed all of 2024 with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear, and told the Dogs of his wish to be traded back in September.

‘The future’s exciting. It’s a successful club,’ Smith said at the time.

‘And just the way they go about footy, but more importantly life and the balance they have and the people Geelong breeds – that’s what’s drawn me there the most.

‘The footy stuff is always amazing, and I suppose it’s a lot of people’s No.1 thing.

‘But it’s more the type of people within the four walls.

‘It’s a privilege to be able to get to know them and hopefully I can add something to what is already an exciting list.’
