I flew to Morocco with my son for a day trip – and the whole holiday cost less than £120

A British mother has revealed how she spent just £120 on a day trip to Morocco with her 12-year-old son.

Melanie Evans, 42, from Chesterfield, Derbyshire, thought a quick getaway  to Morocco would be the perfect way to get a taster of the country, to see if she liked it.

The mother hopped on a 5.45am flight from Manchester with her son Max, and the duo landed in Agadir at 10am local time.

The pair were immediately hit with 27-degree-heat when they stepped off the four hour flight.

Melanie and Max had just seven hours for sightseeing were they went to the beach, got a cable car and enjoyed dinner at McDonald’s.

After a jam-packed day, they caught a flight from Agadir-Al Massira Airport at 9:35pm on November 30.

They landed back in Manchester airport at 00:30 – marking the end of their speedy round-trip.

Despite only having a few hours in the country, the pair said it was enough time to check out an impressive number of local sights.

Melanie, who has also completed day trips to Barcelona, Milan, Dublin, and Belfast, said the weather was the big draw to Morocco.

However, the holiday ended with a crash back to reality as the mother and son duo went straight to Aldi to do a food shop when they arrived home.

Melanie, a car salesperson, said: ‘It was just lovely being with my little boy.’

‘We enjoyed the day, but it felt as though, in one minute, we were in Morocco; the next, we were in Aldi, doing the food shop.

‘As soon as we landed, we got in the taxi and headed straight to the beach, where we chilled for a few hours.

‘We then got a cable car up to the Kasbah and got some lunch at McDonald’s.

‘He was playing away on the beach, which was nice to see, and he loved it.’

She added: ‘I’d go for longer. It was good to have a little taste of what it is like.’

Travel influencers will often share their best tips and tricks for saving big bucks while on holiday, with posts about budget-friendly travel among their most popular content.

Earlier this year, Natasha Whitley, from Bournemouth, Dorset, told her followers how she planned a six-day beach getaway to the Maldives for under £450.

The cost included food, activities and a room overlooking the ocean.

Natasha shared that she had originally planned a trip to Sri Lanka and with the Maldives being just a 90-minute flight, she decided to make a stop there along the way.

Accommodation in the Maldives, which is known for its sandy beaches and turquoise water, can cost up to £1,300 per night.

But instead of staying in the resort islands, the 28-year-old decided to stay in the local islands and was able to book a room overlooking the ocean for just £25 a night.

The local islands, which only opened to tourists in 2009, are less popular with tourists because alcohol is banned and only certain beaches allow you to wear bikinis.

Natasha and her travel partner split their time between the islands of Thulusdhoo and Dhiffushi staying in two beautiful beach-front rooms at the Beach House by Sii Hotels and the Batutu Surf View Hotel.

Natasha said: ‘Rooms on Thulusdhoo and Dhiffushi islands were around £30 a night for a room per person.

‘Ferries and transport were also cheap so it was much more affordable than it looked.’

Natasha, who is also a content creator, and her friend took advantage of the cheaper prices and did lots of activities.

They went swimming with sharks for £88 and took a trip to a deserted island for £28, which both included jet ski rides.

They also paid a modest £12 each to take a trip to a floating bar, which is common on the local islands because they can’t serve alcohol on land.

Food was also very affordable with a meal costing an average of £7 a day per person with breakfast included with their rooms.

The most expensive part of their trip were flights – from London to Malé and then Malé to Colombo – which came up to £905.
