Kmart Australia releases must-have $49 buy to keep you cool this summer – and it’s got EVERYONE talking

Kmart fans are obsessing over the new summer ‘must-have’ kitchen gadget – but not everyone’s talking about it for the right reasons.

The $49 sundae machine claims to create soft serve ice cream or gelato in just 30 minutes.

Shopper Kimi Sanders, who describes herself as an ‘impatient little thing’, decided to test out the machine to see if it was worth the purchase.

She’s eyed off ice cream machines before but the idea of ‘waiting 24 hours’ stopped her from making the purchase every time.

‘This appealed to me. The box basically says one step operation, beautiful. Ice cream and sorbet in 30-40 minutes, perfection,’ she said.

‘Detachable body for easy cleaning and it makes 700mL, what’s not to love about that?’

However, just a few moments later, she was left disappointed with her gadget after realising a major step when she read the instructions.

‘Apparently you have to freeze the bowl for 30 minutes,’ she complained.

‘I will freeze the bowl and cry and we will reconvene tomorrow,’ she said.

She went on to make her ice cream mixture of sugar, cream and milk and put it in the fridge overnight.

However, she wasn’t pleased with the results.

‘I thought this was going to be done in 30 minutes,’ she said.

The next day she returned to the machine to attempt at making the dessert again, less than 24 hours later.

She decided to start with 500mL of the ice cream mixture because she couldn’t find fill line inside the frozen bowl.

But when she started pouring the mixture in, it came straight out of the nozzle.

‘It has been 40 minutes now and it doesn’t seem to be getting any thicker,’ she said above the loud hum of the machine before leaving it for 10 more minutes.

Though Kimi doubted it was ‘soft-serve consistency’ she decided to give it a go.

‘I bought a waffle cone for the occasion.’

‘I should probably be testing it in a bowl but I am not going to,’ she said.

The ice-cream didn’t go as planned – as she was left with liquid in the cone.

‘I let it keep churning for another 20 minutes or so and if anything, it got worse,’ she said.

She went on to conclude the machine wasn’t worth the money.

But after being asked to try again, this time following the instructions, she was thrilled with the results.

She noted she used double cream and froze the bowl for the full 24 hour time the second time.

‘Oh my God it worked. It actually worked,’ she said, thrilled. ‘Redemption.’

‘This time it was literally a tin of peaches in syrup that I blended up and double cream. That’s all! It was amazing,’ she said.

But people seemed to be set against the $49 machine.

‘It looks like it will last 10 minutes before it becomes landfill,’ one man said.

’40 minutes of that noise would drive me crazy,’ said another.

‘I’d rather just take the five minutes to go to McDonald’s for a soft serve cone.’

Others thanked her for saving them money.

‘I was eying this off, thankyou for doing a review! I will look elsewhere,’ one said.

But some popped by to criticise the critic.

‘Weird how it worked when you followed the instructions,’ one man said.

A handful of people were thrilled to see it had worked out.

‘Oh I will be going to grab one now,’ one woman said.

‘Thank you, getting it for my child now. You have saved me so much time in the Maccas Drive Thru… and the headache of figuring it out,’ one woman said.
