Mad Men star Christina Hendricks posts telling photo on Instagram after Donald Trump wins presidential election

Christina Hendricks reacted to the news of Donald Trump winning the 2024 presidential election with a telling photo.

The actress, 49 — known for her role as ambitious secretary Joan Holloway in the 1960s period drama series Mad Men — took to her Instagram in the early hours of Wednesday.

She shared a somber image of herself lying on the couch with a distraught look on her face, and her eyes appearing red like she might have been crying.

The star left the post with no caption, but her fans suspected the poignant photo was a way to express her disappointment over Democratic nominee Kamala Harris’, 60, loss.

The photo appeared to be from the set of the NBC crime dramady Good Girls, where she starred as Beth Boland from 2018 until 2021.

‘Exactly how I woke up feeling,’ one fan wrote in response.

‘Scary, unbelievable and unacceptable. Consider yourself hugged,’ another added.

‘Yup. Seems about right.’

‘Hugs. Feeling it too, ‘ someone else chimed in.

‘Oh… same. Love you Christina,’ yet another one added.

However, others made comments about celebrity endorsements being irrelevant, with one writing, ‘No one really cares about who a celebrity endorses. Their lives are totally different from working class people.’

Hendricks previously indicated in October that she would be voting for Harris in the election, as she urged her followers to also vote.

The star shared a snap of herself with an ‘I Voted’ sticker, writing in the caption: ‘Made sure I got that ballot to Scotland, filled her out and she’s back to the States!’

Hendricks rose to fame on Mad Men, where she portrayed sassy 60s secretary Joan for seven series, until the show’s grand finale in 2015.

Her character, who went on to become a partner of an advertising agency, became a huge fan favorite and Hendricks secured Emmy nominations for her performance.

Hendricks was among a number of Hollywood stars backing the Harris campaign, with Showbiz royalty Oprah and Beyoncé, among others, accompanying the Vice President at her events.

Blockbuster stars George Clooney and Julia Roberts featured in her campaign ads, and millennial and Gen-Z icons, such as Taylor Swift and Charli XCX, urged citizens to turn up at the polls – but her campaign’s reliance on ‘virtue-signalling’ A-listers was not enough.

Trump, 78, became the nation’s next president after captured votes in a wave of swing states, winning both the popular vote and the electoral college overnight.

He received the backing of firebrands Tesla CEO Elon Musk, former WWE star Hulk Hogan, and Joe Rogan, who delivered a last-minute endorsement of Republican candidate on the eve of Election Day.

While it is debatable what effect celebrity endorsements actually have on voters, experts claim that Rogan’s single endorsement to his millions of followers likely helped Trump much more than the star-studded line-up preaching the blue wall.

Rapper Cardi B unleashed an expletive-laden rant towards Trump’s army of supporters after he dramatically seized control of the US election, but the stars who joined Harris on the campaign trail – including Oprah and Beyoncé – are yet to issue any sort of statement.

Beyonce signaled her support for the Vice President almost immediately after Harris announced her candidacy – by allowing the vice president to use her song Freedom in her campaign ads and at rallies.

Oprah travelled across the country on Monday to appear at the last rally of Harris’ 2024 campaign, where she made her final pitch to voters in the crucial battleground state of Pennsylvania.

She also issued a stark warning to the crowd, urging them vote. ‘If we don’t show up tomorrow, it is entirely possible that we will not have the opportunity to ever cast a ballot again,’ she said.
