Storm Bert will strike parts of Britain this weekend with heavy rain, 70mph winds and snow, the Met Office said today.

Forecasters have issued a yellow rain and snow warning for Scotland and northern Ireland from 4am on Saturday to 9am on Sunday.

There is also a yellow rain warning in place for Wales and South West England from 6am on Saturday until 6am on Sunday.

The storm will follow snow and ice which is set to cause further problems for commuters across the country today as weather warnings remain in place.
