Sydney Olympic Park shooting: Gunman on the run

A gunman is on the run following a targeted shooting in Sydney Olympic Park.

A 29-year-old man was shot in the arm several times when three men stormed into his apartment on Figtree Drive, in the city’s inner west, just before 3am on Friday.

The three men then fled the scene and remain on the run.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the victim at the scene before rushing him to hospital for further treatment.

The 29-year-old suffered serious injuries but is expected to make a full recovery.

A burnt-out silver 4WD was found nearby in Lidcombe, and police are investigating whether it was used as the getaway car.

The shooting happened just one kilometre away from the Qudos Bank Arena where teenagers had been camping overnight ahead of Olivia Rodrigo’s concert on Friday.

Sydney has experienced dozens of tit-for-tat gangland shootings since 2020, driven by a war between rival crime organisations.

These public attacks included five targeted shootings in a single week in mid-July.

The violence had subsided following a series of arrests that investigators say helped dismantle one of the major gangs involved, but it has flared up again in recent months.
