Oaks Day is neither the best known nor richest event in Australia’s jam-packed spring racing calendar – but when it comes to the sartorial stakes in the Birdcage, it could be the most significant.

Affectionately known as Ladies Day, Oaks Day gives celebrities and socialites alike the opportunity to shine trackside.

Bold, confident and inspiring looks are celebrated as are the more traditionally ‘feminine’ moments – think pink, floral and lace.

Here’s who ticked all the boxes on the final day of Melbourne’s famous Spring Racing carnival:

Elizabeth Hurley 

Elizabeth Hurley was all class once again as she swanned through the Birdcage to join other beautifully clad A-listers. 

The 59-year-old actress wore a white lace gown which truly embodied the feminine aspects of the final day of the carnival.

She wore an oversized white floral hat, balancing the look with neutral makeup, simple shoes and a plain white clutch.

Kate Waterhouse 

Kate Waterhouse proved she’s still the queen of style at Flemington with her impeccable ensemble.

The 40-year-old, who is the daughter of legendary trainer Gai Waterhouse, donned a Jaton Couture gown which resembled flower petals and complimented her incredible figure.

The mum balanced her fourth incredible look of the season with simple pink Louboutin pumps worth upwards of $1400, pink and gold Valentino clutch and simple Ezra J headband.

Lana Wilkinson

Lana Wilkinson chose a long blush gown for the final day of the Melbourne spring racing carnival – and it ticked all the boxes.

The glamorous 42-year-old celebrity stylist chose point-toed pumps in a matching blush tone and added timeless gold button earring to finish off the look.

She added a ribbon in her hair which she wore in a low, relaxed ponytail which ‘dressed down’ the look to make it perfect for the races.

Moraya Wison

Fashion model Moraya Wilson looked stunning in her dusty pink satin gown.

The dress, which would make most people look washed out, complemented the former Miss Universe Australia’s dark features.

The 23-year-old smiled happily as she posed at the Birdcage, in the corset-inspired gown and matching hat.

The elegant outfit was completed with an ornate bag which featured a fun pearled strap and button, and simple shoes.

Sylvia Jeffreys

Sylvia Jeffreys nailed ‘race day chic’ with her relaxed floral look.

The mum-of-two wore a long sleeved dress by Australian designer Zimmermann, and paired it with a giant cream bow and an eclectic purple and gold clutch.

She wore old-gold sandals with a chunky heel which tied in nicely with the floral detailing on her bag.

The blonde beauty looked relaxed and comfortable as she posed for photographers on the day.

Sarita Holland 

The glamorous mum-of-three looked stunning in her pale blue applique gown. 

The 42-year-old wore a dress by Australian designer Elliatt and paired it with a statement hat by Morgan and Taylor.

The bright red hat was matched to a sleek scarf, red lip and her heels – the perfect colour block moment for ladies’ day, albeit a bold one. 

She added heart shaped gold earing to finish off the outfit which landed her on the best dressed list.

Rachel De Oliveira 

Melbourne beauty influencer and mum Rachel wasn’t sure she had ‘chosen the right hat’ for Oaks Day before following her close friend Sarita onto the best dressed list.

Posting to Instagram she questioned her outfit choices. But there was no need – the pink on pink on pink captured the fun atmosphere of the day perfectly.

Her dress by Elliatt featured 3D pink floral detailing and oozed playful energy. Her hat by Morgan and Taylor suited her face shape and her shoes added the extra oomf to the already impressive outfit.
