Trump denies he’s ‘unhinged’ as Democrats zero in on his town hall dancing and rambling answers as evidence he’s in decline

Former President Donald Trump doubled down on his comments about facing an ‘enemy from within’ and brushed off Kamala Harris’s new attack that he has become ‘unhinged.’

‘I thought it was a nice presentation. I wasn’t unhinged,’ Trump said, when asked about Harris’s slam during a town hall event with women voters on Fox News.

Host Harris Faulkner had asked Trump about Harris’s blast – a departure from some of her other campaign themes – that Trump is ‘increasingly unstable and unhinged.’

Trump has called prominent rivals ‘sick’, and spoke recently about any post-election chaos being handled ‘very easily’ by the military, in comments his rivals have flagged to say he poses a risk that would be unchecked by aides or the courts.

‘You know what they are? They’re a party of soundbites,’ Trump countered, hitting at Democrats.

‘Somebody asked me: can they be brought together,’ Trump continued, concluding ‘they’re really very different. And it is the enemy from within.’

‘And they’re very dangerous. They’re Marxists and communists and fascists, and they’re sick’, Trump said, using labels he often slaps on Harris.

Harris had made the decision to call out Trump for the comments, after earlier in her campaign dialing back some of President Biden’s attacks calling Trump a threat to democracy to focus on gauzier future-focused themes.

The term ‘enemy from within’ has roots in a speech by Sen. Joseph McCarthy (R-Wis.) during the Red Scare.

‘A second Trump term would be a huge risk for America, and dangerous. Donald Trump is increasingly unstable and unhinged,’ Harris said Tuesday.

Her campaign sought to capitalize on the comments, blasting out a release Wednesday morning.

‘The stakes of this election could not be higher, as Donald Trump plots to surround himself with yes-men who enable his worst instincts and desires to be a ‘dictator’ on ‘day one.’ Those who know Donald Trump best and worked alongside him are warning us about the risk of a second Trump term, where he would have virtually unchecked power and no guardrails even as he is increasingly unhinged and unstable,’ said Harris-Walz 2024 Spokesperson Sarafina Chitika.

Trump sparked the questions with his comments to another Fox host, Maria Bartiromo, on Sunday, where he said he wasn’t worried about chaos on Election Day and spoke of using the military against the ‘enemy from within.’

‘I think the bigger problem is the enemy from within,’ he said. ‘We have some very bad people. We have some sick people, radical left lunatics.’

‘It should be very easily handled by, if necessary, by National Guard, or if really necessary, by the military, because they can’t let that happen,’ Trump said.

Harris also pounced on Trump for an odd rally where after answering some questions in Pennsylvania and following two health incidents in the crowd, Trump stood on stage and swayed to favorite songs from his rally playlist for about 40 minutes.

‘Hope he’s okay,’ she posted on X.

Trump’s own post on his Truth Social site talked up the event. ‘We started playing music while we waited, and just kept it going. So different, but it ended up being a GREAT EVENING!’
